TL;DR
  • New details of a rumored Xiaomi flagship phone, code-named Odin, have broken cover.
  • The device will seemingly arrive with UWB, 5G connectivity, and more.
  • It’s unclear what the device will be called, but some believe it could be the Mi Mix 4.

Xiaomi‘s next flagship smartphone could introduce a wireless technology growing in popularity among flagship devices — ultra-wideband (UWB).

According to XDA-Developers‘ sources, an upcoming smartphone — bearing model number 2106118C and code-named Odin — will seemingly pack support for UWB. Evidence was reportedly found lurking in the MIUI 13 code and official certification listings of the device in question.

UWB would be a welcome addition to Xiaomi’s flagships. Both Samsung and Apple have introduced the short-range wireless tech to their headline devices. It fuels both firms’ location tracking products. UWB can also be used for file transfers, smart home management, and as a digital security key for physical properties.

This would be Xiaomi’s first device with UWB technology, but the company isn’t late to the party at all. Google is also rumored to introduce UWB to the Pixel 6 after a UWB API was discovered on early Android 12 builds.

UWB seemingly won’t be the only standout feature on this device, though. It could pack triple rear cameras headlined by a 50MP primary sensor and supported by two 48MP shooters pulling telephoto and ultra-wide duties.

Notably, 2106118C recently passed through TENAA (h/t MySmartPrice), suggesting that the phone will feature 8GB and 12GB RAM figures mated to 256GB of storage. Interestingly, there’s no mention of UWB here, but the listing does mention 5G dual-SIM support.

Is this the Xiaomi Mi Mix 4?

At present, the model number and code-name are all we have to go on so it remains unclear which Xiaomi flagship line Odin will form a part of. Xiaomi has hinted that a new Mix model is in the works, so there’s a chance that Odin may be the Mi Mix 4. Of course, the company could decide to bolster its Mi 11 series with yet another device.

It’s unclear when Xiaomi’s UWB-toting flagship will debut. The company is rumored to launch MIUI 13 in August, so we could see a surprise device announcement then. Either way, it seems highly likely that UWB will be on at least one Xiaomi device soon.
