POCO C3 launches in India next week: Yet another Redmi reskin?
- Xiaomi has confirmed the POCO C3 will launch in India next week.
- Based on previous certification info, the phone will likely be a rebranded Redmi 9C.
Word of a new Xiaomi POCO phone first surfaced in July, when certification for the POCO C3 was spotted on the Bluetooth SIG site. Now, POCO India has confirmed the phone’s existence and plans to launch it in India pretty soon.
POCO didn’t confirm any specs or pricing info, but the Bluetooth certification mentioned above suggests the POCO C3 will likely launch as a reskinned Redmi 9C. Considering Xiaomi’s numerous rebrands of Redmi line devices to POCO series phones, this seems highly likely.
With this in mind, the Redmi 9C’s specs sheet gives us a good idea of what the POCO C3 could pack. It’s likely to sport a 6.53-inch 1,600 x 720 display with a MediaTek Helio G35 chipset beneath it. A 5,000mAh battery could feature once more, with a headphone jack, rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, and a trio of rear cameras headlined by a 13MP sensor possibly completing the list. In fact, the camera housing in the Twitter teaser seems very similar to the Redmi 9C’s housing.
The POCO C3 wouldn’t be the first phone to launch in India based on the Redmi 9C. The Indian Redmi 9 was actually a Redmi 9C variant with more more RAM and storage options than the international Redmi 9C, while also offering a dual rear camera setup instead.
India’s super competitive sub-Rs 10,000 (~$137) segment arguably doesn’t need another similar Xiaomi device, but that’s seemingly exactly what we could get with the POCO C3.
More details will be announced on October 6 at 12 PM IST (2:30 AM ET).
