Xiaomi's first foldable could get upgraded to take on Galaxy Z Fold 3
- Xiaomi is apparently working on a refreshed Mix Fold device.
- The revised foldable will purportedly gain an under-display selfie camera and more.
Xiaomi launched the Mi Mix Fold earlier this year, delivering a foldable phone with the same form factor as the Galaxy Fold series. The phone was pretty impressive in terms of specs, but it’s a China-only device.
Now, Weibo tipster Bald Panda has revealed that Xiaomi is working on an upgraded Mix Fold that seems to be more of a refresh than a full-fledged Mix Fold 2.
More specifically, the leaker claims that the refreshed model will sport high refresh rate external and internal screens, 120W charging for the 5,000mAh battery, and an under-display selfie camera (presumably under the foldable display). Check out the machine-translated post below.
By comparison, the original model offered a high refresh rate on the external screen only, 67W charging for the 5,020mAh battery, and lacked any sort of selfie camera on the foldable screen. So these features would all be welcome additions, although 67W charging is very fast to begin with.
Xiaomi wouldn’t be the first player to bring an under-display selfie camera to a foldable, as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3 offers this option already. But we hope Xiaomi’s apparent implementation is harder to notice under the screen and offers better image quality.
We also hope that the Chinese brand brings the revised model to global markets if it is indeed working on it. But reports earlier this year suggest that there’ll be a few foldable choices in Q4 2021 anyway.
