Xiaomi Mint Browser

Despite mass storage options becoming cheaper, the base model of some smartphones just don’t come with enough storage. So unless you can expand this with a microSD card, you have to limit the number of large apps installed on your device.

Fortunately, there are apps like Xiaomi’s new Mint Browser that limit its file size without limiting the number of features packed within.

The app’s primary feature is its small size, but we will discuss that below. The Mint Browser also boasts fast loading speeds, voice search, a modern and clean design, data-saving features, and much more.

So why did Xiaomi make the Mint Browser? It’s likely because most of the phones it sells are low- to mid-range smartphones with limited resources. The smaller app size and requirement for less processing and memory power give it a leg up over browsers on the Play Store such as Chrome, Firefox, and others.

Going back to the app size, for me, the Chrome browser was taking up a total of 1GB of my Pixel 3’s storage. While only 197MB of this was the app itself, for some reason, the browser was hanging onto a cache 711MB in size.

While I have been using Chrome for a much longer time than Xiaomi’s new app, the Mint Browser only takes up 21.9MB of space and has cached an addition 19.7MB. Only time will tell if Mint will do a better job at clearing away cache automatically.

Additionally, as Android Police points out, Xiaomi has been known for inserting its ads into its software, causing it to bog down over time. We can only hope that this chain of events doesn’t happen to the Mint Browser in the future.
