TL;DR
  • Xiaomi has announced its new QLED 4K TV for India.
  • The 55-inch display packs Android TV smarts and three HDMI 2.1 ports.
  • It goes on sale in India later this month for under $800.

Xiaomi has had a busy 2020 challenging the likes of Apple and HUAWEI in the global smartphone race, and debuting a number of other smart home and wearable products. Now, it’s set to add to its TV offerings in India. The company today launched its new flagship Mi QLED TV 4K arriving in a 55-inch form factor.

Aesthetically, the set sports minimal top and side bezels with a claimed screen-to-body ratio of 96%. The frame includes plenty of texture, too, with sandblasted edges and laser-engraved accents. As for the rear, it features a “carbon fiber” skin with four metallic feet to keep the screen stable on surfaces.

Let’s talk display specs. As suggested by its title, the Mi QLED TV 4K sports quantum dot technology giving the TV 95% DCPI-3 color gamut coverage. It also adds support for a number of HDR formats, including Dolby Vision, HDR 10, and HLG. For gamers, Xiaomi also packs in a low latency mode.

As for audio, Xiaomi hopes users won’t require external speakers. The Mi QLED TV 4K includes six speakers – four drivers and two tweeters – with support for Dolby Audio and DTS-HD. If they do require other speakers, the set also boasts HDMI eARC support.

Xiaomi includes a well-rounded I/O offering with three HDMI 2.1 ports, two USB ports, an optical out, and a 3.5mm audio jack as well. There’s an Ethernet port for those who don’t want to employ the dual-band Wi-Fi 5 support, while Bluetooth 5.0 also features.

Finally, this is a smart TV, after all, so Android TV 10 comes baked in. It’s commanded by a MediaTek 9611 SoC with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The Mi Remote, with its Mi Quick smarts, is also bundled with the display.

So how much does it cost? The Xiaomi Mi QLED TV 4K 55 will debut at Rs 54,999 (~$747) from December 21 through the likes of Xiaomi’s official stores, Flipkart, and other retail stores.
