Official Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s photos: where's the selfie camera?

The handset doesn't include a selfie camera at the top corner of the display as rumored, providing for another clean design in series tradition.

Xiaomi has revealed some press photos of the Mi Mix 2s, confirming that it won’t include an embedded selfie camera as had been rumored. Instead, the Mix 2s camera will probably be held on the bottom of the handset, like on the standard Mi Mix 2 (or is it too much to ask for a vivo Apex-like pop-up?).

Whatever approach Xiaomi is taking (a selfie camera will almost certainly be included somewhere), the Mi Mix 2s’ camera placement allows for a phone that lacks both thick bezels—which would typically include the selfie camera and other sensors—and a cutout or “notch”. This ensures the display goes all the way to the top of the phone and differentiates it from devices like the iPhone X and OPPO F7.

The Mi Mix 2s is likely to house one of the best optimized screen-to-body ratios seen on a smartphone yet, though you’ll notice the display doesn’t cover the entire body, as there is slightly thicker bezel at the bottom of the handset.

The recent photos were posted on Xiaomi’s official Weibo page (via GSMArena) yesterday, ahead of the phone’s launch next Tuesday.

The Mix 2s is tipped to arrive with a Snapdragon 845 chip, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. Furthermore, the smartphone is expected to be Xiaomi’s first to feature wireless charging, though rumors of a rear dual camera setup have been debunked by another image from Xiaomi’s Weibo account (seen above).
