For the past few months, we’ve been wondering what was going to happen with Xiaomi’s “A” line of Android One devices. The Xiaomi Mi A2 launched in April of last year, but April came and went this year with no mention of the Xiaomi Mi A3.
However, that all changed in early July when the company used Twitter to finally reveal that the Xiaomi Mi A3 does, in fact, exist and is going to launch very soon.
Although the device isn’t officially out yet, we’ve already seen pretty much everything related to it either through leaked renders or through a real, retail device that someone was able to purchase early.
Read on below for everything we know about the Xiaomi Mi A3!
Xiaomi Mi A3: Name and release date
We know for certain that the device will be called the Xiaomi Mi A3 due to the company confirming the name in this tweet. The Mi A3 name makes perfect sense since the A1 started it all and the A2 followed it up.
As for the release date, we are also certain it will launch on July 17 according to this tweet from Xiaomi’s Spain account.
Considering we didn’t even know the device existed until July 12, Xiaomi is moving things along very quickly!
Xiaomi Mi A3: Design
The look of the Xiaomi Mi A3 is getting quite the makeover as compared to the Mi A2. There will be a waterdrop notch, a slightly smaller chin, and a triple rear camera setup.
Thankfully, the USB-C connection, headphone jack, and microSD card are all sticking around on the Mi A3.
Check out these leaked renders of the device below, courtesy of WinFuture:
The renders show off three of the device’s expected colorways. The one in the middle we know is called “Kind of Grey,” which reminds us of the way Google names its Pixel colorways. The names of the other two colors — the shiny white and wavy blue — are a mystery for now.
We don’t only have renders of the Mi A3, though. Check out these real-life images of a retail version of the device as obtained by Soya Cincau:
Frankly, considering how cheap the Xiaomi Mi A3 is expected to be, it looks awesome. More on pricing rumors in a bit!
Xiaomi Mi A3: Specs
The specs of the Xiaomi Mi A3 are all but confirmed, considering that Soya Cincau obtained a retail version simply by buying one early. However, we still need to treat the leaked specs as a rumor until Xiaomi fully reveals the device on July 17.
That being said, here’s what you can expect for the Xiaomi Mi A3:
- 6.1-inch AMOLED display with HD+ resolution
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor
- 4 GB of RAM
- 64GB of internal storage
- microSD slot (hybrid dual SIM card slot)
- 4,030mAh battery with 18W fast charging
- Rear cameras: 48MP primary / 8MP ultra-wide / 2MP depth sensor
- Front camera: 32MP
- Android 9 Pie (Android One version)
Interestingly, according to Soya Cincau, the device supports 18W fast charging but only comes with a 10W charger in the box. This means that you’ll need to buy a new charger if you want the Mi A3 to charge at its fastest capable speed.
Xiaomi Mi A3: Price
According to Soya Cincau, the Xiaomi Mi A3 device it obtained cost 1,098 ringgit (~$267). However, this price is more expensive than what the Malaysian price is expected to be since the device it bought was an imported model.
As such, you can expect the Mi A3 to likely cost between $200 – $250 dollars in your region of the world. Depending on where you live, it could be even lower, considering how cheap the Xiaomi Mi A2 is at the moment.
Regardless, you only have to wait one more day before we know for certain how much it will cost. Stay tuned!
