The device in the footage also lacks a visible fingerprint sensor, lending weight to the notion that it will have in-display fingerprint scanning tech.

The upcoming Xiaomi Mi 8 may have appeared in a leaked hands-on video. The video was published on Chinese media website Sina (via Phone Arena) earlier today, only a day after Xiaomi officially announced the device.

The Xiaomi Mi Max 2.

The pictured phone features a semi-transparent design that provides a glimpse at the circuitry inside (the Translucent Blue HTC U12 Plus unveiled earlier today has a similar effect). It houses a dark grey body, with a vertically mounted dual camera setup on the rear, but there’s no visible fingerprint sensor on the front or back. This gives weight to the speculation that it will feature in-display fingerprint scanning tech.

It looks like there’s a fairly wide notch at the top of the display too. The Mi 8 is said to some with 3D facial recognition, so the notch may be comparatively wide to hold all sensors at the top (if indeed it comes with a notch, this is all speculation for the moment).

The device, previously expected to be called the Xiaomi Mi 7, will launch on May 31. For more on what we’ve heard so far about its specs and price, check out our dedicated Xiaomi Mi 8 rumors article at the link.
