  • The Xiaomi Mi 11 could become the first officially announced Snapdragon 888 phone.
  • It’s now tipped to launch on December 29.

Xiaomi has already announced that the Mi 11 will be its next flagship powered by the latest Snapdragon 888 processor. However, the company hasn’t said much else about the smartphone or when it plans to launch it. Now, a new leak claims that the Mi 11 will be announced on December 29.

The information comes courtesy of a Gizmochina source who also previously revealed the Mi Watch Lite’s December 10 global launch date. The source, however, could not confirm if December 29 is the China launch date for the Mi 11 or a global one.

That said, the tipped Mi 11 launch date ties up with tipster Ice Universe’s previous leak that estimated a December end launch for the phone. Xiaomi might want to unveil the Mi 11 before the close of 2020 in order to beat the Galaxy S21 as the first officially announced Snapdragon 888 phone. In fact, Xiaomi previously stated it will indeed be first to the post with the Snapdragon 888.

“Regarding Mi 11, it will be the first smartphone to be powered by Snapdragon 888,” Xiaomi told Android Authority earlier this month. This statement combined with Samsung’s expected mid-January launch date suggests that even if the phone doesn’t land on December 29, a late December to early January launch could still be on the cards anyway.

Nevertheless, Mi 11 leaks have become quite rampant since Xiaomi announced its existence. Some live images of the phone are also floating around currently, but it’s hard to say if they’re legitimate or not. The phone was apparently captured during an ad shoot but we can’t vouch for this source so don’t believe what you see just yet.
