TL;DR
  • The Xiaomi 12 family is tipped to arrive in global markets by the end of February or early March.
  • This would make for a slight delay over the Mi 11 series last year.

The Xiaomi 12 series launched in China late last month as one of the first device families to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 flagship processor. Unfortunately, we didn’t get any word on global availability at the time.

Now, frequent tipster Mukul Sharma has told MySmartPrice that the Xiaomi 12 series will launch outside China by the end of February or early March. The tipster also suggests that the Indian launch will either take place around the same time or “soon after” this window.

A late February or early March launch would make for a slight delay compared to last year’s Mi 11 release timeline. The previous Xiaomi flagship launched in China in late December 2020, with the phone coming to global markets on February 8, 2021.

In any event, the Xiaomi 12 series consists of three devices, namely the Xiaomi 12X, Xiaomi 12, and Xiaomi 12 Pro. The vanilla and Pro models are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC while the 12X gets a Snapdragon 870 processor. The Pro variant is clearly the most capable model of the lot though, bringing a QHD+ display, 120W charging, and a more flexible rear camera system (50MP main, 50MP ultrawide, 50MP 2X telephoto).

The phones retail for 3,199 yuan (~$502), 3,699 yuan (~$581), and 4,699 yuan (~$738) respectively. But we’re expecting a significant price increase when they come to most markets outside China.
