These days, it’s easier than ever to get stuck in a number of unhealthy habits. Withings, a health electronics company known for its smart scale technology, says it wants to help you change those habits into healthy ones with its latest biometric scale and companion service.
Today, Withings has unveiled its new smart scale — the Body Comp. Marketed as a complete body assessment scale, the company says that its product is capable of measuring multiple biomarkers typically only assessed in a professional clinical setting. In addition to the Body Comp, Withings has also unveiled a new service called Health Plus, aimed at providing detailed health analysis and tools to help people build routines that can improve their health.

Starting with the scale, Withings states that it has equipped its device with embedded sensors that can monitor multiple biomarkers associated with general and chronic health risks. As a result, this scale can measure more than just your weight, it can calculate things like body composition (e.g. muscle mass, water percentage, bone mass, and BMI), cardiovascular health, and nerve health.
The company also claims that the Body Comp will be the first scale capable of measuring body fat, visceral fat (fat hidden around the organs in your belly), vascular age (the pliability of your blood vessels), and nerve health (the function of the nerves in your feet) in one consumer device.
Withings states that the Body Comp will be its first device that is compatible with its new Health Plus service.
Health Plus is said to unlock additional features in the company’s Health Mate app. These features include additional details that help users to better understand the collected data, six-week habit-building modules, new metrics that allow users to correlate measurements so they can see improvements, and motivational rewards in the form of badges.
“Many people know what to do to improve their health. But it’s hard to fit healthy behaviors into your life and to know if they are actually improving your health,” says Dr. Shikha Anand, Chief Medical Officer at Withings. “Health Plus helps people understand how their behaviors impact their health, with bite-sized daily tasks that guide them to better results over the short, medium, and long term,”
Body Comp and a 12-month subscription to Heath Plus will be bundled together with a price point of $209.95. If you plan on picking one up for yourself, Body Comp and Health Plus are scheduled to launch on October 4.
Withings is currently showing off the Body Comp and Health Plus on the show floor of this year’s IFA event. Our initial impressions have us very impressed with what the scale and app could do for users’ health. Stay tuned to Android Authority for more coverage from IFA 2022.
