WhatsApp is testing a much higher file size limit for sharing
- WhatsApp is reportedly testing a 2GB file size limit for sharing.
- This feature is currently restricted to beta users in Argentina.
One area where Telegram is undoubtedly superior to WhatsApp is the file size limit for sharing, allowing users to send files as large as 2GB to each other. Meanwhile, WhatsApp tops out at 100MB for shared files.
Fortunately, WABetaInfo reports that WhatsApp is now testing the ability to share files as large as 2GB. The WhatsApp tipster says that this test is currently taking place in Argentina on both Android (version 2.22.8.5 and higher) and iOS (version 22.7.0.76) beta apps. Check out two screenshots below, showing the old and new limits.
There’s no word if this increased file size limit will be rolled out to beta users in other countries. But we’re guessing it will eventually come to more users in the coming weeks and months.
Either way, this would be a major improvement over the current 100MB limit, bringing it in line with arch-rival Telegram as well.
