If you’re already lost in the sea of emoji, brace yourself for a new round of peculiar pictographs appearing in your messaging apps next year. A selection of 51 new emoji have made the shortlist for implementation with Unicode 10, ahead of the finalized standard which will be unveiled in mid-2017.

Included in the list, you’ll find a number of new animals, including a giraffe and zebra, tasty treats like a pretzel, pie and milkshake, along with the clearly much sought after “bearded man”, T-Rex and sauna. In fact, food seems to be a big theme with this latest pack, as there are plans for new broccoli, coconut, and sandwich pictures too. You can check out just a small selection of the new emoji below:

Alongside the all new icons, Unicode 10 is also looking to introduce non-gendered versions of some existing emoji. This could potentially include the child, adult, and older adult images.

This list has only been provisionally accepted, so some of them may end up being whittled down by committee before making it into the final specification mid way through next year. After that, we’ll have to wait for software updates to implement them too, so you won’t be launching any UFOs for a while yet.
