Nvidia’s Tegra X1 mobile SoC was one of the big announcements at CES 2015 and it probably isn’t a surprise to learn that NVIDIA is apparently working on a successor to its SHIELD Tablet, which will contain the company’s latest processor package.

During the unveiling of the Tegra X1, NVIDIA announced that its latest chip would arrive in the first half of 2015 and one source suggests that NVIDIA may be planning to launch the new tablet at the GPU Technology Conference on March 17th, if not slightly before. No other information was given regarding the next-gen SHIELD tablet, although it is expected to come in the same 8-inch form factor, with an LTE option appearing at a later date.

However, one conflicting source suggests that a March release would be much too soon for another NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet. Instead, the second source states that NVIDIA will be following a yearly product cycle for the SHIELD Tablet, as is the standard pattern for most companies. This would shift the prospective launch schedule for a Tegra X1 powered NVIDIA tablet back to sometime in July 2015.

A Tegra X1 NVIDIA tablet seems inevitable, but we may have to wait a few more months before we can lay our hands on one.
