Tecno Mobile Pouvoir 4 and 4 Pro: Beast of a battery, beauty of a price
Flagship devices continue to reach new heights in terms of power and style, but 2020 has been the year of the mid-range device. Google’s Pixel 4a and Apple’s iPhone SE have shown that the big names can still produce a powerful phone that comes in at less than $400. However, there’s a pair of phones that push the mid-range limits even further — the Tecno Mobile Pouvoir 4 and 4 Pro.
It all starts with the storage — although the Pouvoir 4 starts with just 3GB of RAM and 32GB of memory, the Pouvoir 4 Pro jumps to 6GB and 128GB, respectively. The MediaTek MT6762 Helio P22 processor is a bit of a change from the Snapdragon chips many are used to, but it’s a change that adds even more value to Tecno Mobile’s latest devices.

More battery than you know what to do with
One of the largest drawbacks of both the iPhone SE and Pixel 4a is the battery life. The Pixel packs a 3,140mAh while the iPhone is working with just 1,821mAh. If you add them both together, you still come up with a smaller capacity than the Pouvoir 4 and 4 Pro — smaller by about 1,000mAh.
That’s right, this already affordable mid-range device comes with a huge 6,000mAh battery, even in the base model. Tecno Mobile boasts that its behemoth of a battery should power through nearly 13 hours of video playback or more than 10 hours of gaming. If you’re not as much of a power user, the standby time is a whopping four days.
The official, real-world use cases of battery life are pretty impressive. If you’re watching movies, that’s 792 minutes of play time. Playing a game like PUBG? 638 minutes. Actively recording and editing video? 516 minutes.
Of course, even a 6,000mAh battery won’t last forever, but the Pouvoir 4 family is capable of charging at a speedy 18W to get you back on the go in a hurry. It may take a few extra minutes due to the massive battery size, but that charge will go further than previous Tecno Mobile devices could imagine.
Four cameras for more fun
It can be hard to know what a mid-range camera can do, but the AI-powered quad-lens setup on the Pouvoir 4 and Pouvoir 4 Pro should offer plenty of punch. The 16MP lens and F/1.8 big aperture are nothing to scoff at, and 8x digital zoom should help you capture plenty of detail. You can even get up close and personal with 2.5cm macro shots for even the tiniest of subjects.
The enhanced AI features shine when it comes to the 16MP selfie shooter, too. It boosts the background bokeh effects to give your portraits a little extra pop. The selfie camera shoots at 81 degrees, giving you more room to pose with your friends and family — once we’ve safely moved past the days of social distancing anyway.
The media lover’s dream
So the battery is big, and you can take plenty of pictures, but what if you just want to sit down and watch the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy back-to-back-to-back? The battery is large enough to handle the challenge and the 7-inch Dot Notch touchscreen (720 x 1,640 resolution) can add a cinematic touch to the experience. By comparison, the Pixel 4a has a 5.81-inch display and the iPhone SE comes in at just 4.7 inches.
A great screen isn’t enough for the perfect mobile movie though — the Pouvoir 4 and 4 Pro are packed with dual stereo speakers for peak immersion. Gamers can rejoice too as the Pouvoir 4 family is fine-tuned for racing games and FPS action alike. The volume key also functions as a tactile fire key so you don’t have to fumble around on the display itself and risk elimination.
Tecno Mobile even crafted an optimized game mode that shrinks your notifications so you can easily check on them without compromising performance. The Off-Screen mode makes it a breeze to keep running your favorite games with the screen off, which can save as much as 50% of the battery life on idle games or upgrade games where you just need to check in from time to time.
A solid sensor selection
Even the best devices need sensors to reach their full potential. The Tecno Mobile Pouvoir 4 and 4 Pro are each well-equipped with a fingerprint sensor for security, but that’s only the start. An ambient light sensor keeps things easy on the eyes while a G sensor takes care of speed, motion, and more. If that’s still not enough, a proximity sensor helps to track objects and wake your phone when you come near.
Prices that make your wallet smile
The laundry list of specs like this would make you think that the Pouvoir 4 and 4 Pro cost just as much as the Pixel 4a or iPhone SE right? Take that number and cut it in half — the Pouvoir 4 comes in at around $160 and the Pouvoir 4 Pro is just a bit more at around $180. At that rate, you could grab both devices and still spend less than the cost of a Pixel 4a.
