If you have a Microsoft Surface Duo 1 or 2, you could be in store for a nice surprise in the coming weeks. Rumors suggest that an update based on Android 12L could be coming to the dual-screen device.

According to Windows Central, sources have told them that Microsoft could be preparing to roll out a major OS update based on Android 12L in the next few weeks. Said update could also come with Windows 11-inspired “Fluent” elements.

One of the changes this update may bring is blurred surfaces and effects throughout the OS and more fluid animations for gesture navigation when opening or closing apps. The update could also give users a new feature called “Duo Connect” that will deliver a continuum-style experience when connected to a large external display when using Windows 365.

Another new feature may include a new “pen menu” interface. This interface would reportedly pop up once a user taps the top button on the Surface Slim Pen 2. Additionally, users may have the ability to customize the interface, add shortcuts to any app, and display the pen’s battery level.

The source also says that Microsoft may be applying its own Fluent design language to Android in an effort to make the Surface Duo seem like more of a great Windows companion device.

Finally, the update could bring Android’s new wallpaper-based theming support and minor design changes to the Microsoft Launcher.

The update is reportedly in the final testing stages for both the Surface Duo 1 and 2. The devices have had a rocky road with bugs, so hopefully this rumored update will be bug-free when it finally launches.
