Sony sets mid-April date to announce new Xperia phones
- Sony has announced an April 14 Xperia event.
- The company is expected to launch the Xperia 1 III, Xperia 5 III, and Xperia 10 III.
- Specs of the Xperia 1 III have also leaked.
Sony is getting ready to announce new Xperia phones. The company has announced an April 14 event that’ll be live-streamed on its YouTube channel starting 9:30 AM CEST (3:30 AM ET).
Sony hasn’t hinted at any phone names or how many devices it plans to launch. However, according to a Weibo tipster, the company will unveil the Xperia 1 III, Xperia 10 III, and the Xperia 5 III at the event.
The same leaker has also revealed some specs of the so-called Sony Xperia 1 III. The device is expected to come with a 6.5-inch 4K OLED 120Hz display bearing a 21:9 aspect ratio, the Snapdragon 888 SoC, 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, a 64MP main camera, a periscope camera, a 5,000mAh battery, and 65W fast charging.
While some of these specs have leaked before along with the renders of the phone, the fast-charging bit seems a little iffy. The Xperia 1 II packed 21W fast-charging, so unless Sony has caught up with its Chinese rival, we’re unsure if charging will get that big of an upgrade.
Nevertheless, it would be wise to take all of the leaked specs with a pinch of salt.
There’s no word on the specs of the Xperia 5 III, but you can expect it to be a more pocketable version of the rumored Xperia 1 III flagship if it launches.
As for the Sony Xperia 10 III, we saw leaked renders of the device back in January. It doesn’t look too different from its predecessor, but the good news is that it might still retain the 3.5mm headphone jack.
We’ll let you know if Sony discloses any more information ahead of the April 14 launch. Until then, let us know what you think of Sony flagships in the comments section below.
