Of course, this is just a rumor, but it might be more of the same from Samsung next year.

TL;DR
  • The Samsung Galaxy S23 camera might have the same telephoto lens as the 2022 model.
  • It’s possible other lenses could see improvements, but it’s not clear as of yet.
  • The Galaxy S23 Ultra, though, could see a huge boost in photography performance.

All phones in the Galaxy S series have had telephoto lenses since 2020. However, each year, the telephoto lens didn’t change. The Galaxy S22 was the first to finally up the ante and offer a newer 10MP sensor with 3x optical zoom.

While that’s great, it appears Samsung could go back to its old habit. It could reuse the latest telephoto lens on the Samsung Galaxy S23 camera. According to a new rumor from Galaxy Club, the 10MP/3x sensor you find in the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus, and Galaxy S22 Ultra could land again in 2023.

Now, this is just a rumor, so take it was a grain of salt. However, it does make sense for Samsung to do this. It doesn’t need to update the telephoto lens each year. Likewise, the one we saw on the Galaxy S22 series was pretty great. It does mean, though, that if you were looking forward to advancements in this area, you’re not likely to get it in 2023.

Of course, Samsung could upgrade other aspects of the Samsung Galaxy S23 camera systems. The main and ultrawide sensors, for example, could see some improvements.

One rumor we’ve repeatedly heard is that Samsung could introduce a 200MP main sensor to the Galaxy S23 Ultra. If so, this would be one of the most significant camera upgrades to the series since the very first Ultra phone landed in 2020.

Stay tuned for more leaks related to the Samsung Galaxy S23 camera, among other details. As we get closer to the end of the year, there are bound to be more and more rumors flying about.
