The ZTE Zmax series is known for offering fair specs at a low price, but the latest rumor states the next version will come with a stronger kick. At least according to Venture Beat and “someone briefed on some of the details”.

This insider claims the upcoming ZTE Zmax Pro will come with a 6-inch 1080p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor, 2 GB of RAM, 16/32 GB of internal storage, a 13 MP rear camera, a 5 MP front-facing shooter and a fingerprint reader.

Both previous iterations had smaller displays. The ZTE Zmax had a 5.7-inch screen, while the Zmax 2 was a bit smaller at 5.5 inches. Not only that, but both had a 720p screens, as opposed to the Full HD resolution the newer one is rumored to sport. The Zmax Pro also has a better processor than those two, which still carried Snapdragon 400 series chipsets. Then there is also the addition of the fingerprint sensor in the back.

Taking all of this into consideration, we can assume this phone will be more in line with the ZTE Imperial Max, which launched on US Cellular. This phone has a Snapdragon 615 CPU and a dual camera on the back. The secondary shooter is said to be replaced with the fingerprint reader, on the Zmax Pro. By the way, this would be the first Zmax device with biometric authentication.

The source claims the Zmax Pro will be launching this summer on T-Mobile. There are no more available details on pricing and exact availability, though. The Zmax line-up is known for being affordable, so we can expect the same with the Zmax Pro. The first Zmax costed about $250 when launched, and the Zmax 2 went for $150.

Are any of you interested in the ZTE Zmax Pro? They have always been good affordable handsets, but competition in the mid-range market has gotten pretty fierce. Let’s wait and see if an announcement gives us something to really be excited about.
