A recreation of the classic puzzle game Myst has now hit Google Play. realMyst reproduces the mysterious adventure title in a fully 3D environment — instead of the pre-rendered frames used by the original — with improved lighting, textures weather and water effects.

Myst first appeared in 1993 on Mac, with the updated realMyst being released in 2000. It has since appeared on Steam and was ported to iOS in 2012.

realMyst is like a 3D version of a point-and-click adventure game. You play as a character known as The Stranger who must explore (on-rails) a deserted island called Myst. To uncover its secrets, you’ll have to solve puzzles scattered throughout the location. Check out the trailer for it below.

As you might suspect, this was one of the titles Jonathan Blow drew inspiration from for his puzzle game The Witness — though Blow actually said that The Witness is, to some extent, the way it is because of things he would have changed about Myst.

On Steam, realMyst has mixed reviews, with most complaints citing technical issues. Noodlecake Studios, who also published Alto’s Adventure, does have a strong track record, however, so the Android version will hopefully be more successful.

realMyst can be picked up for $6.99 with no in-app purchases from today. It’s compatible with devices running Android 4.2 and up, but they’ll probably have to be pretty powerful to run it well.
