TL;DR
  • We expect the next flagship silicon from Qualcomm to be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 875.
  • Today, the company announced a launch event on December 1 that will most likely see that chipset’s release.
  • Usually, this annual event happens in Hawaii, but that won’t happen this year.

With the year starting to wind down, it’s about time to start getting excited for the next piece of flagship silicon from Qualcomm. We expect it to be called the Qualcomm Snapdragon 875, and it looks like the company could stick to its usual announcement schedule for its next big product.

Qualcomm sent out invites today for a launch event starting on December 1, 2020. Although there is no specific mention of the SD875, this is usually when the company would launch such a product. We are very confident that that’s what will happen.

In the email connected with the invite, Qualcomm mentions “premium-tier mobile performance.” As we said, it’s almost assured this is referencing the SD875, although there’s no confirmation on if that will be its final name.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 will likely be the fastest, most powerful, and most energy-efficient 5G chipset from the company. It will likely debut in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S30 series of smartphones, which should launch in February 2021.

There are rumors that the SD875 will have multiple “lite” versions to help deal with the rising costs of smartphones. It’s possible Qualcomm could also confirm that at this upcoming launch.

In years past, this event happened in Hawaii. For tech journalists, it’s become an end-of-the-year celebration in a tropical paradise. Obviously, the event won’t be happening in-person this year, which is why the GIF has a beautiful tropical shore.
