You heard of port-free phones before, but a port-free laptop is now a thing

This laptop even lacks a barrel port for charging, using a wireless charger instead.

TL;DR
  • A new company has revealed a port-free laptop.
  • The Craob-X instead uses a wireless charger for topping up the battery.

We’ve seen a few tentative stabs at port-free smartphones in recent years, with these being restricted to concept devices from the likes of Meizu, vivo, and Xiaomi. Now, it looks like one company could be taking this approach to laptops.

A new company called Craob has posted images and specs for its so-called Craob-X laptop (h/t: MyLaptopGuide), showing an ultra-thin notebook (weighing 1.9 pounds) with no ports whatsoever. No USB-C ports, no 3.5mm input, and not even a barrel port for a charger.

Instead, the Craob-X tops itself up via a wireless charger that attaches to the laptop’s lid (seen below). This charger also contains an SD card slot as well as ports for USB-C, Thunderbolt, and a 3.5mm jack.

The company is also touting a pretty impressive spec sheet for the form factor, namely a 13.3-inch 4K display, “up to” a 12th generation Core i7 processor (1280P), Intel’s Iris Xe graphics, up to 32GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and up to 2TB SSD. There’s no word on pricing or availability just yet beyond a vague “coming soon.”

In saying so, we’d approach this project with plenty of caution. We’ve never heard of this company before, so it’s entirely possible this laptop doesn’t see the light of day. Nevertheless, we do wonder whether this could spur other laptop makers to experiment with this approach.
