Plex update adds app shortcuts for Android 7.1 Nougat and more
On the same day that Plex officially launched its new Plex Cloud media server service, the company also started rolling out an update to its Android app. Version 5.6 contains a number of small additions, with the main one adding app shortcuts for the small number of devices that use Android 7.1 Nougat.
In addition to that feature, all Android devices running Plex will now be able to support “Original” audio quality when syncing music files. It also adds a preference to disable the discovery of AirPlay players on the network and it can now display media flags for locally synced content. Finally, there’s new support for ARM64v8a. Android TV users will also get an extra feature, which will hide “Next” and “Previous” buttons on preplays when no siblings are available.
There are also quite a number of bug fixes in this new 5.6 release, including many that are specifically for the Android TV version, and Plex has also launched another small update, 5.6.1, to deal with one more issue. You can check out the long and detailed change log for this update at Plex’s support forums. Keep in mind that this new version has just started to roll out so it may take a day or two for it to become available for all Plex Android owners.
