TL;DR
  • The Paranoid Android team has rolled out new builds based on Android Oreo.
  • The devs announced the builds in a post yesterday, along with an update on the current status of the project.
  • The team have pledged to be more transparent in future and asked for further support from indie Android devs.

Paranoid Android has announced its first-ever Android Oreo builds in a post on Google Plus. Moderator Espen Flagtvedt Olsen delivered the news yesterday alongside an update on the current status of the Paranoid Android ROM project (via Android Police).

“We haven’t been transparent enough with the community and it’s time to change that […] we are going to be transparent about what is happening and keep you up to date about potential development cycles, respective news and more,” read the post, seemingly penned by the core team.

Back in May, the Paranoid Android developers announced they’d fallen on hard times and were seeking funding from the community. Judging by today’s news, however, it seems the developers are getting back on track.

The Paranoid Android folks said they have a new website in the works (they’ve uploaded the latest builds elsewhere for the time being) and are busy working in three main areas: getting their features bug free, finalizing device tree work for initial release, and preparing to open up all sources on GitHub.

Meanwhile, they are also seeking developers “interested in helping us with development of [their] features and improving [their] UI.” Visit the community page for more.

As for the Android Oreo-based ROMs, the team has made them available for a handful of Sony devices, including:

  • Xperia X
  • Xperia X Compact
  • Xperia XZ Premium
  • Xperia XZ1
  • Xperia XZ1 Compact

You can find the download links and flashing instructions over at the Google Plus page now and we’ll let you know when builds for further devices arrive.
