  • A new FCC certification listing suggests Nothing is working on a portable wireless speaker with the product code “E495.”
  • While technical details are limited at this stage, the filing confirms Bluetooth connectivity and an integrated rechargeable battery.
  • If and when released, this device would mark the brand’s first venture beyond personal audio into shared listening.

Nothing has steadily expanded its footprint across personal audio products, moving from TWS earbuds like the Ear 3a to over-ear headphones like the Headphone 1 Pro. Now, it appears Carl Pei’s design-forward smartphone brand is preparing to enter the wireless speaker space.

A fresh FCC certification listing initiated by Nothing reveals a new device with model number “E495.” The FCC listing formally classifies the product as a “Portable Wireless Speaker,” marking it as an entirely new hardware category for the brand.

While the regulatory filing does not include many technical details, the classification confirms some basic specifications. There’s onboard Bluetooth for wireless connectivity, and the speaker has a portable form factor and is powered by an integrated rechargeable battery.

An FCC listing does not guarantee that a product will be released, but it represents a positive step in that direction.

If it pans out, the move into portable speakers would represent a logical evolution for Nothing’s audio portfolio. Since debuting the original Ear 1 in 2021, the company has released a slew of personal listening devices, including earbuds like the Ear stick, Ear 2, Ear (yes, the name is still confusing), Ear a, Ear 3a, and Ear 3, as well as open-ear options like the Ear open, as well as releases under the CMF sub-brand. Nothing also sells headphones, namely the Headphone 1, Headphone a, and Headphone 1 Pro, and the CMF Headphone Pro.

However, shared listening devices like wireless speakers are currently an untapped segment for the brand, one it could capitalize on with its transparency-centric design language.

It remains to be seen whether this upcoming portable speaker will adopt Nothing’s signature transparent polycarbonate casing or other signature elements like Glyph lighting, and whether the company will release it under the Nothing brand or the CMF brand. With FCC certification underway, we could expect to hear more about the product in the coming weeks.
