Nest's first outdoor security camera is weatherproof and can see in the dark
Google-owned Nest might be going through a few shake-ups as of late, but that doesn’t mean the company plans to stop making home security products anytime soon. Nest has just unveiled its very first outdoor security cam, aptly named the Nest Cam Outdoor.
This new weatherproof security camera provides 1080p HD video streaming, advanced Night Vision and more intelligent smartphone alerts. It features a more rounded, compact look compared to the standard indoor cam, and it can be plugged into a power source so it never shuts off.
If the Nest Cam Outdoor thinks something fishy is going on, it’ll send you a phone alert or email with an image from the event that just took place. It can differentiate between people and things, too, so you won’t get a notification every time a squirrel runs past your front door. And if you do find out there’s someone at your door, you can listen to what’s going on and talk back through the camera’s built-in speaker and microphone. It should be plenty easy to install. The Nest Cam Outdoor features a unique magnet mount, so it’s easiest to install on metal surfaces.
The Nest Cam Outdoor is available for pre-order through Nest and Best Buy for $199. Nest says the cameras will begin shipping in 11-12 weeks, and Best Buy’s website says pre-orders will ship by October 4. If you’re interested, you can find the pre-order links listed below.
