TL;DR
  • Motorola has launched the Edge 40 in the UK and Europe.
  • The phone differs from the Edge 40 Pro in terms of horsepower and a few other areas.
  • Expect to pay ~$666 when the phone goes on sale in the UK.

Motorola recently launched the Edge 40 Pro in Europe and the UK, but the standard Edge 40 was nowhere to be seen. Fortunately, the company has just announced the vanilla model in the two regions.

The Motorola Edge 40 is a clear step down from the flagship-tier Edge 40 Pro in several ways. For one, the company swapped out the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset for a mid-range MediaTek Dimensity 8020 processor. You’re also looking at a slightly smaller battery (4,400mAh versus the Pro model’s 4,600mAh capacity) as well as slower wired charging speeds (68W versus 125W).

You’ve got some respectable core specs elsewhere though, namely a 6.55-inch curved FHD+ OLED screen (144Hz), 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM, and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

Moto’s phone also brings a dual rear camera setup consisting of a 50MP main camera (f/1.4) and a 13MP ultrawide shooter with autofocus. Yes, the company has decided to forego a 2MP depth sensor just to pump up the numbers. Switch to the front and you’ve got a 32MP camera for selfies and video calls.

Motorola is also bringing two premium-tier features in the form of 15W wireless charging and an IP68 rating. Otherwise, you’re also getting Android 13, Bluetooth 5.2, dual stereo speakers, an in-display fingerprint sensor, Wi-Fi 6, and a 68W charger in the box.

The new Edge handset will be available in the UK and Europe, coming in at £529.99 (~$666) or €599.99 (~$664) for the sole 8GB/256GB variant. The phone will be available in Eclipse Black, Nebula Green, and Lunar Blue, complete with a vegan leather back (or matte acrylic back for the Lunar Blue variant).

UK customers can expect to find the Motorola Edge 40 via Motorola’s website, Curry’s, John Lewis Partnership, Amazon, Three, and Vodafone. Either way, the phone seems like a decent alternative to devices like the £600 and €649 Pixel 7.
