  • Motorola has confirmed its 200MP smartphone will launch in July.
  • The device is reportedly called the Motorola Frontier.
  • Moto has also teased a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus flagship.

Motorola has confirmed that it will launch its first 200MP camera smartphone in July. The company made the announcement on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. It is teasing the upcoming device as the “new benchmark for image experience.”

While Moto hasn’t revealed the name of its 200MP smartphone, one has been rumored for a while now. Specs and renders of the phone (see above) have leaked multiple times.

The device is reportedly called the Motorola Frontier and is said to feature Samsung’s HP1 sensor. Alongside the 200MP primary camera, the phone is also expected to sport a 50MP ultrawide camera and a 12MP telephoto lens. The selfie camera on the handset is expected to be a 60MP sensor.

Other rumored specs of the Frontier include 8GB to 12GB of RAM and a 6.67-inch FHD+ OLED panel at 144Hz.

Leaks also suggest that the Motorola Frontier will be powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus processor. That’s most likely true since Motorola recently teased an upcoming phone carrying the chipset. Some have speculated that Motorola was promoting the Razr 3, which is also expected to house the new Qualcomm SoC. However, this latest 200MP teaser suggests Moto could launch the Frontier ahead of its clamshell. Then again, it’s also possible that the company is planning to make a big splash in July and launch both the new Razr and the 200MP flagship together.

We expect to hear more from Motorola in the coming weeks. For now, it looks like the new phone will land in China before the rest of the world.
