TL;DR
  • Microsoft Edge and Bing apps on mobile now include the ChatGPT-powered AI chat experience.
  • You need to be a part of Microsoft’s preview program to access the AI features on the apps.
  • Microsoft has also integrated the AI-powered Bing search into Skype.

Two weeks back, Microsft revealed the ChatGPT-powered Bing Search and Edge browser experience on desktop. Since then, the company has welcomed one million people in 169 countries off the waitlist into the preview program to try out the AI’s capabilities. Now, the company is bringing the same AI-assisted chat to the Bing and Edge apps on mobile.

According to Microsoft, 64% of all searches happen on mobile phones. So it has revamped the Bing and Edge apps for iOS and Android with a fresh look and the ability to strike up natural conversations with its AI. Tapping the Bing icon on the search engine’s mobile app will fire up a chat session where you can engage with the AI in the same ways as the desktop version. You can choose to display answers to your questions in the form of bullet points, text, or simplified responses.

Microsoft is also adding voice search to the Bing app on mobile as well as Bing’s desktop version. “Voice search provides more versatility in how you can deliver prompts and receive answers from Bing,” the company wrote in its announcement post.

Those who applied to be on the waitlist for Microsoft’s ChatGPT experience on the web and now have access to the service will be able to use the new Bing experience from the homepage of the Microsoft Edge mobile app.

Additionally, Microsoft has integrated the AI-powered Bing with Skype. You can add Bing to any group on Skype and ask it to answer questions and provide information to the entire group. For example, suppose your family is chatting about the next family reunion. In that case, you can ask Bing for suggestions on travel destinations, expected weather forecasts, and interesting events around your time of travel, and everyone in the chat will get access to the results.

The AI Bing experience on Skype or mobile is now available as a preview worldwide. You can sign-up up for Microsoft’s waitlist to gain access to it. These features should be available immediately if you’re already on the Bing preview experience.
