LG V30 owners in Korea begin receiving AI features from V30S ThinQ
- When the V30S ThinQ was revealed, LG was keen to emphasize its AI capabilities.
- LG also said that existing V30 models would receive these AI features in an update.
- LG V30 users in Korea began receiving the update today (March 9).
The LG V30S ThinQ was released in Korea today and, at the same time, LG has begun updating existing V30 phones with the new device’s AI features. The update includes the QLens, AI Camera, and Bright Camera, as well as other AI and voice assistant functionality.
In terms of what users can expect from the updates, QLens is a Bixby Vision-type camera app that allows the user to do visual searches. Meanwhile, the AI Camera is a camera mode that suggests settings based on image recognition. Show it a person and the camera will adjust its settings to match what it sees.
In our review of the V30S ThinQ, we thought the Bright Camera was the most interesting of the new features. This mode makes images brighter than they would be by grouping pixels into fours. We found this to be very effective at making dark images brighter although this came at the cost of a smaller image size.
While these updates are great news for users in Korea, if you are outside of LG’s home country, you will be disappointed to know that there’s still no mention of a wider release for either the LG V30S ThinQ or for the V30 updates.
