TL;DR
  • The first LG gaming laptop has been announced, as part of the company’s UltraGear series.
  • The laptop will have a big 17.3-inch display with a fast 300Hz refresh rate, along with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Max-Q graphics card.
  • No price has been announced, but it’s expected to go on sale in early 2022 in the US.

LG has been making ultralight laptops with long battery life for some time. It’s also made some impressive PC gaming desktop monitors with high refresh rates. Now, those two businesses collide with the first LG gaming laptop, featuring a big 17.3-inch display with a fast 300Hz refresh rate.

The LG gaming laptop will be marketed as part of its UltraGear gaming brand, but it doesn’t really have a cool name of its own; only a dull model number (17G90Q). However, the purple-grey colored notebook does pack in some impressive hardware specs. It will have an unnamed Tiger Lake-based 11th Gen Intel Core processor inside, along with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Max-Q graphics card. It will have dual memory slots for either 16GB or 32GB of memory, a 1TB SSD for storage, and a vapor chamber cooling system to keep things running inside. Powering the device is a 93Wh battery. We would suspect it won’t last nearly as long as LG’s Gram laptop series.

While it’s not exactly an ultralight, the LG gaming laptop is still relatively thin at under 21.4mm, with a weight of 5.82 pounds. It will also have a two-way speaker system and Intel’s Killer wireless hardware with support for Wi-Fi 6E. It also has an RGB-backlit gaming keyboard. Each key can have its own custom color with the LG UltraGear Studio gaming software. It can also offer stats on real-time hardware performance like CPU clock, GPU TDP and clock, and memory share rate.

The laptop is scheduled to launch in the US and South Korea sometime in early 2022, and will launch in other markets at a later date. There’s no work on pricing at this point, but you should expect this to be on the expensive side.
