If you own an iPhone, the AirPods Pro is the obvious choice for listening to music, although there are alternatives too! Apple’s latest generation of AirPods Pro has just under six hours of battery life with ANC turned on, and the charging case provides another 24 hrs of listening time. But how do you recharge them when they run out of juice? Here are all the ways to charge your AirPods Pro.

QUICK ANSWER

AirPods charge when placed inside the case. You can charge the AirPods Pro case wirelessly atop a Qi, MagSafe, or Apple Watch charging mat, and you'll need a Lightning cable for wired charging.

The AirPods earbuds will automatically shut down and charge whenever they’re inside the provided case with the lid closed. So, to charge your AirPods Pro, simply place them inside the case and close the lid.

The AirPods case provides power to charge your AirPods, which means the case itself will need to be charged. You can charge the case wired or wirelessly, even while your AirPods are inside, so long as the lid is closed.

Charge the case with a cable

Connect the AirPods case to a power outlet using a Lightning to USB Cable, and a compatible power adapter plugged into a wall outlet.

Charge the case wirelessly

Place the AirPods case with the status light facing up on the center of a MagSafe wireless charger, Qi-certified charger, or Apple Watch charging mat.

You’ll know the case is aligned correctly with the charger when the status light turns on for several seconds, then turns off while continuing to charge. You can also check the charge status of your AirPods with the Batteries widget on your iPhone.

FAQs

No, you must have an Apple-certified AirPods case to charge the AirPods Pro. Be careful buying second-hand cases, as knock-off charging cases will not power the AirPods Pro.

Unfortunately, there is no way to charge your AirPods without a case. You will have to buy a new case from Apple or a pair of earbuds that work with other charging methods.
