HONOR 7X Oreo update rolling out now in the US (Updated)

Live in the United States? If so, the HONOR 7X EMUI 8.0 stable update should be landing on your phone from today.

Published onApril 30, 2018

Update (04/30): True to the previous update, EMUI 8.0 and Android 8.0 Oreo are indeed landing on U.S. versions of the HONOR 7X today. XDA-Developers reported the news, adding that the update includes Project Treble support for easier system updates.

Update (04/27): According to Android Central, the stable version of EMUI 8.0 (based on Android 8.0 Oreo) will land on U.S. variants of the HONOR 7X on April 30, 2018. Beta testers have had EMUI 8.0 for a month now, but people who like to wait for stable versions only have a few more days to go until the update is available.

Update (04/12): MyDrivers (via GSMArena) reports that the Oreo+EMUI 8.0 stable update is scheduled for a May release. So if you haven’t opted for the beta release, you won’t have to wait too long.

In addition to Oreo, EMUI 8.0 will bring the company’s “AI-powered” optimizations to keep things smooth over time, as well as LinkedIn integration.

Update (03/15): HONOR has started informing FUT (Friendly User Test) members that the Oreo-based EMUI 8.0 trial will begin rolling out today to the HONOR 7X. The staged rollout is expected to be completed by the end of the week for beta program members in Germany, Italy, Spain, and France, as well as the U.S. and India.

As previously noted, the beta firmware will arrive via an OTA update. HONOR is advising all FUT participants to keep hitting the “Check for updates” option in their device’s settings every few hours. In an email to all FUT members (via Android Police), HONOR also asked users to send any feedback and bug reports to the same email address.

Original story (03/01): HONOR has launched the HONOR 7X Android Oreo update beta program in Spain, Germany and Italy. The news arrives from XDA Developers, which says HONOR is also considering rolling out the beta in other territories.

To get involved, you’ll need to join the program through the dedicated app (links below) and log-in with your HUAWEI ID. You should see the beta available in personal > join the project once you’re inside and you’ll receive the beta firmware via an OTA update.

France is also said to be among the nations where the beta is currently rolling out, though some commenters suggest it isn’t available there yet; we’ll leave the link below in case it goes live shortly.

EMUI 8.0 is the latest software skin developed by HUAWEI—Honor’s parent company. It comes with typical Oreo features like picture-in-picture mode, notification dots, new emojis etc, as well as HUAWEI’s own performance improvements and optimizations.
