TL;DR
  • HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer is promising something special for MWC 2018.
  • There has been speculation of four upcoming Nokia smartphones that could make an appearance at the show.
  • Among them is the rumored flaghip, the Nokia 9.

Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer at HMD Global, has told people to expect something “awesome” from HMD Global at MWC 2018 in February. The comments arrived after a period of “Radio Silence” from Sarvikas, during which time he said he had been busy planning for MWC.

HMD Global is the current the home of Nokia smartphones, and the company set itself off to a strong start last year (we called it the brand of 2017 in our end-of-year roundup). At MWC 2017, Nokia made a number of revelations, including introducing three new devices and announcing the global availability of another. MWC 2018, meanwhile, could be the launch place for another slew of devices.

Sorry for radio silence. Been super busy planning #MWC2018 . Please expect it to be awesome ?

This year we have already seen a second generation Nokia 6 from the company, but we’ve heard rumors that the Nokia 1, 4, 7 Plus and 9—said to be Nokia’s next flagship—could be on the way. A slightly better sequel to a pre-existing phone likely wouldn’t have us raving about HMD’s show, so we’re expecting multiple handsets or one super phone.

We’ll be on the ground at MWC at the end of February hoping HMD Global sticks to its word. In the meantime, what do you think would be an awesome showing from the company? Let us know in the comments.
