Update (4/26): Good news, Hearthstone players! The latest expansion, Whispers of the New Gods, is now live!

As noted below, this new expansion brings 134 new cards, as well as a number of format changes and classic card changes. If you're interested, simply fire up Hearthstone on your mobile device and start playing!

Original post (4/19): The World of Warcraft-themed virtual card collecting/battling game Hearthstone has been an absolute runaway smash hit, to put it mildly. Now, something eldritch this way comes with the looming release of a substantial expansion back: Whispers of the New Gods. You can grab it early to snag a “cosmically powerful” bundle of fifty packs, but if you wait around for the formal arrival of these abominations, then you’ll suffer the wrath not being able to purchase this particular bundle.

So what can we expect from the return of these otherworldly overlords of an ancient and grotesque hegemony? Well, first of all, you’ll get 134 brand new cards to collect and play with! The developers are playing a teasing game about the nature of these cards, but we can assume that a fair degree of twisted corruption and unbridled insanity to play a role. Some popular characters from the tavern will have had a brush or two with the New Gods, and I think it’s safe to assume they’ll be a bit different than their old selves.

This is the third expansion to hit Hearthstone since the game’s release, and it will be available in the in-game shop starting April 26 in America. Europe has to wait an extra day because the New Gods experienced a flight cancellation and deities refuse to ride coach.

If you haven’t given Hearthstone a whirl, then don’t, because it’s an addicting maelstrom of card-collecting revelry that can ruin your life and end your marriage, but if you feel like giving it a shot anyway, click the button below to grab it from the Play Store.
