- Haier will include Android TV into its upcoming television sets launching later this year.
- The televisions will come in a variety of sizes, and in both 1080p and 4K resolutions.
- The company has already partnered with Google to include Chromecast in some of its previous TVs.
The world of Android TV is getting larger. More companies are signing on to include Android TV to their sets, and now Haier is one of them. The Chinese electronics manufacturer is notable for purchasing General Electric’s appliance business in 2016. Since then, the company has continued to manufacture GE’s appliances like dishwashers, microwaves, and refrigerators. It also makes televisions under its own name with Chromecast built in.
The new Android TV sets will launch in 2018 in North America. They’ll come in either FHD (1080p) or UHD (4K), and in a variety of screen sizes. The sets will come with the latest version of Android TV based on Android Oreo. You’ll be able to play games from the Play Store, control your smart home appliances, and use Google Assistant just like you would on your phone or Google Home.
Haier also says that the new sets are coming to the rest of the world, but hasn’t passed along details as to when. We’re also waiting to hear just how much they will cost. With the price of 4K TVs dropping like a rock, we’re excited to see another company step up to compete. More competition is a win for consumers.
