Update (7/1218): Just ahead of its ominous official release date of Friday the 13th, the spooky puzzle game Fracter is now available for download on Android and iOS. Check out the trailer above or head right over to the Google Play Store to download it now.

As promised, Fracter features a creepy ambience and a series of puzzles centered around light. Your character seems to have lost part of themselves, and your task is to collect the missing pieces by exploring the mysterious labyrinth.

Puzzles are solved both by moving your character around the screen with a virtual joystick and by tapping or swiping elements on the screen. Most of the puzzles involve changing the direction of beams of light and flipping switches to open doors.

There are some stealth elements to the game as well. Shadowy characters chase after you if you get too close, and if they catch up you’ll turn into another lifeless creature hobbling about the dark halls.

Fracter will run you $3.99 (€4.29), which is worth it for the striking visuals alone. Click the button below to download and let us know what you think in the comments!

Original story (5/9): Fracter is an upcoming isometric puzzle game set for release later this summer. It’s the debut title from studio 4L Games, and it looks set to be an intensely atmospheric experience.

Completely black and white, Fracter will see players take control of a young hero on a quest to dispel the darkness within a mysterious labyrinth. They do this by solving puzzles and trying to outsmart the game’s various creatures using only the power of light — something that seems to be seriously lacking in the game’s world.

4L says the game features meticulously crafted puzzles, an eerie soundtrack, and a “poetic, self-reflective narrative.”

It certainly looks eerie: the way the main character skips in the GIF below while being trailed by a crawling, spider-like creature is genuinely unsettling. We’ll have to wait to a later date to confirm that it plays as good as it looks.

All we know about a release date is that it is expected to come at some point this summer. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as soon as we get any more info about it.
