Devil May Cry mobile game announced, and you can pre-register now
- Developer Yunchang Game acquired the IP rights to the Devil May Cry franchise
- Devil May Cry: Pinnacle of Combat will be exclusively available for mobile
- The game will focus on its combat system and include multiplayer features
I was happy when Capcom announced it would bring the first three Devil May Cry games to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, but arguably more intriguing is the mobile title that was recently announced.
It fell a bit under the radar, but according to MMO Culture, Chinese developer Yunchang Game obtained the IP rights to publish a game based on the Devil May Cry franchise. Dubbed Devil May Cry: Pinnacle of Combat, the upcoming mobile title focuses on its combat system and includes team battles and real time player-versus-player matchups.
Based on the images, you will get to play as either Dante or Vergil, though we aren’t sure if you will be able to play as other series characters, such as Nero, Trish, and Lady. We also aren’t sure if Devil May Cry: Pinnacle of Combat will have a single-player component — it’s a mobile title, so the chances are slim, but previous Devil May Cry games featured a single-player storyline.
On a personal note, I’m not sure how well the controls will translate to mobile. The Devil May Cry series is known for letting you string together multiple combos, a system that works together with the high difficulty to make fights as satisfying to look at as they are to be a part of. It’s going to be difficult to shift that to mobile, particularly if Yunchang Game commits to porting the series’ combat system.
Going back to the known quantities, Devil May Cry: Pinnacle of Combat is looking sharp at this stage, thanks to the developer’s use of the Unity engine. That opens the possibility for the game to be ported to other devices, given the engine’s flexibility, but that’s more speculation than anything else.
The game is set to launch in China sometime in 2018, and even though we aren’t sure if Devil May Cry: Pinnacle of Combat will be available elsewhere, you can pre-register for the game on Android and iOS.
