TL;DR
  • Bose has acquired Skullcandy, bringing the popular lifestyle audio brand under its wing.
  • Skullcandy will remain a separate brand, and Bose plans to give it access to its audio technology and global distribution.
  • The deal could bring more of Bose’s audio expertise to future Skullcandy headphones and earbuds, although no new products have been announced yet.

Bose and Skullcandy are about to make a lot more noise together given that the former just acquired the latter. Yes, Bose has bought Skullcandy in a major move for the audio industry. The deal could pave the way for better-sounding headphones and earbuds from Skullcandy, known for its more accessible prices and distinctive designs.

According to Bose’s announcement, the acquisition brings Skullcandy under Bose’s ownership after the two companies spent several years working together. That partnership has already resulted in Skullcandy headphones and earbuds featuring Sound by Bose technology, including the recently launched Crusher 1080 ANC headphones.

So what’s next? Well, Bose says it plans to invest in Skullcandy’s growth, giving the brand greater access to its technology, resources, global distribution, and commercial relationships. That could help Skullcandy develop new products that combine its cool designs with Bose’s audio expertise.

Don’t expect Skullcandy to become Bose overnight. In fact, the brand isn’t going anywhere. Bose says Skullcandy will remain a separate brand within its premium consumer audio business. It will also continue operating from its home base in Park City, Utah.

While Bose is known for its premium audio products, Skullcandy has built its reputation around lifestyle audio, bold designs, gaming, and fitness. The acquisition could give Bose a stronger foothold in these communities while giving Skullcandy more resources and audio tech to compete in an increasingly crowded headphone market.
