1. The Conjuring

The Conjuring happens in the 1970s and follows a family that moves into a farmhouse. Unfortunately, it turns out that a supernatural presence is there to terrorize all who enter.

 To remove the spirit, an investigator and demonologists are called in. As they learn, it’s harder to remove the supernatural being that’s historically tied to the home.

The Conjuring should be your go-to movie if you’re looking for something scary. 


2. Scream

What do you get when you combine teenagers and a serial killer stalker? Scream. 

A year after her mother is killed, the main character and her friends start receiving creepy phone calls asking about horror movie trivia. What comes next is a masked killer that terrorizes the town and those they call. 

Scream is the perfect mix of horror and humor. This cult classic is a must-watch for any movie buff.


3. The Sixth Sense

Seeing dead people is horrifying, but what happens when a child claims to see people’s ghosts? What about when the spirits ask the kid to do things for them?

A child psychiatrist has to figure out how to help rid the child of his ability while also tackling the real-world realizations that come from the horrible visions.

Directed by M. Night Shyamalan, this Bruce Willis classic should be on your list of best Halloween movies on Netflix. 


4. Final Destination

A handful of teenagers escapes death after receiving a vision of a plane crash. Now, death wants its vengeance.

Throughout the movie, the main character has visions of when and how his friends will be killed. The group continues to try to avoid a horrible fate, but they can only run for so long. 

Once you wrap up Final Destination, you can watch the movie’s sequels: Final Destination 2, Final Destination 3, and The Final Destination.


5. 1922

Based on a Stephen King novella, a farmer kills his wife after she decides to leave him. Shortly after inheriting her family’s land, the farmer, his son, and all those on the farm start receiving visits from a supernatural being.

Is it just bad luck or has the farmer’s reluctance to leave the land come back to haunt him?

1. Silence of the Lambs

After being assigned to track down a serial killer, an untrained and wide-eyed FBI agent turns to a convicted mass murderer for help. By talking to Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a psychiatrist and cannibal, the special agent hopes to understand the thought process of the killer that’s on the loose. 

Although the FBI agent learns more after repeated visits with Dr. Lecter, she quickly discovers that everything comes at a cost.


2. Zombieland

After a strain of mad cow disease infects Americans from coast to coast, a boy learns to survive in a zombie-infested world by following 30 simple rules. In the hopes of finding his family, the main character teams up with other survivors to stay alive.

It’s rumored that a theme park in LA is uninfected and a haven for those escaping the zombie outbreak. But as it turns out, that isn’t entirely true. 


3. Bird Box

An unknown presence has come to inflict havoc on the world. No one knows what the thing is, but anyone who sees it is driven to commit suicide. 

Five years after society crumbled, a mother must take her children to safety. But to do this, they must travel down roads, rivers, and more while being blindfolded. If they peek at the world around them, everything is over.


4. Coraline

After moving to a new home, Coraline discovers a secret door. Just inside lays a parallel universe that is eerily similar to her own.

At first, Caroline finds this alternative life to be better and more fun than her own, but things end up taking a turn for the worst. Now, Caroline must find a way to escape and get back home. 


5. Casper

To locate a treasure hidden deep within a house, property owners call in a ghost therapist to exterminate the spirits residing within. After the doctor and his daughter move into the house, they quickly have to learn how to cohabitate with four ghosts.

The youngest and most friendly ghost, Casper, befriends the girl and tries remembering what it as like to be human. Unfortunately, the three other spirits, Casper’s uncles, continue to try and scare the family off and keep them away from what’s hidden within the building’s walls.
