ASUS Zenfone 6 - closer back of device

The ASUS 6Z is now available in India. At an event in New Delhi, ASUS introduced the latest addition to the value flagship segment. This is the same phone as the ASUS Zenfone 6, but has been renamed because of the on-going branding related lawsuit against ASUS.

Coming to the specs, the ASUS 6Z runs on a Snapdragon 855 chipset with up to 8GB of RAM. Storage tops off at 256GB but can be expanded further using a microSD card. The display is a 6.4-inch FHD+ LCD panel that manages a 92 percent screen-to-body ratio because of the lack of a notch.

While the specifications might not make the phone stand out, the form-factor certainly does. Eschewing notches and punch-holes, the ASUS 6Z makes use of a flip-camera that is equipped with a 48MP primary sensor as well as a 13MP ultra-wide sensor. This flip camera can be controlled and adjusted using an on-screen slider, giving you a high degree of manoeuvrability to capture interesting shots.

Battery-life too is a highlight feature of the ASUS 6Z. The 5,000mAh battery is rated to last two days of use and supports Quick Charge 4.0 for fast charging.

The ASUS 6Z goes on sale on Flipkart starting June 26 with prices starting off at 31,999 rupees (~$460) and goes all the way to 39,999 rupees (~$575) for the top-end version. ASUS is offering a comprehensive care package at a subsidized cost of 99 rupees (~$1.5) that will include doorstep service and will cover damaged screens, liquid damage while offering guaranteed resolution within 10 days.

  • ASUS 6Z: 6GB RAM, 64GB ROM — 31,999 rupees (~$460)
  • ASUS 6Z: 6GB RAM, 128GB ROM — 34,999 rupees (~$501)
  • ASUS 6Z: 8GB RAM, 256GB ROM — 39,999 rupees (~$575)

What do you think about the 6Z? Is the unique form-factor enough of a reason to push you towards the hardware or will you opt for a tried and trusted device like the OnePlus 7 or the OPPO Reno?
