Android TV Launcher

Google’s second attempt at a media streaming set-top box platform is keeping many faithful Android users hopeful. The company’s first attempt, Google TV, was a great idea, but never took off due to a host of different reasons — including a lack of timely updates. Google is aiming to change that, as they have just released the Android TV Launcher app to the Play Store to provide more timely updates to Android TV devices.

Google has finally gotten into the good habit of updating their apps on a regular basis. This is largely thanks to the company adding all of their stock apps to the Play Store, so they can be updated individually without the need to push out an entire software update. One particular app that sticks out is the Google Now Launcher, which allows Google to change the interface however they’d like, at anytime. Think of the Android TV Launcher as the Google Now Launcher, only for your set-top box. The app is only compatible with Android TV devices, and so far, that just means the Nexus Player and the ADT-1. What’s more, the app also comes with a few bug fixes, so if you’re the owner of either device, be sure to install this app when you get a chance!

We’re happy to see Google releasing this app to the Play Store, and it’s now apparent that the company is serious about providing timely updates to all their devices.
