A new rumor about the Android P launch date points to August 20, 2018. The rumor comes from notorious leaker Evan Blass.

TL;DR
  • Notorious leaker Evan Blass (EVLeaks) says that the Android P launch is set for August 20, 2018.
  • Blass is usually correct with his information, so this could very well be the real date.
  • If it is the launch date, it would be almost exactly a year since the launch of Android 8.0 Oreo.

Today, notorious leaker Evan Blass (aka @EVLeaks) tweeted out an image of a calendar with a “P” logo on the date of August 20, 2018. In other words, it seems that the rumored Android P launch date is now August 20, a little more than two weeks away.

You can see the tweet for yourself below:

Blass is usually correct with most of his leaked information, so we’re inclined to think that this rumor is true. It would also make sense for the August 20 date since the initial launch of Android 8.0 Oreo was on August 21, 2017.

However, this is not an official announcement of the Android P launch date and thus should be taken as rumor only for now.

Android P will be the ninth version of the world’s most popular mobile operating system. Although we don’t know what “flavor” Android 9.0 will receive, popular contenders so far are Peppermint, Popsicle, Pancake, and Pie.

Unlike previous Android versions, Google made beta testing for Android 9.0 available to non-Pixel/Nexus phones like the OnePlus 6, the Essential Phone, and the Sony Xperia XZ2. You can learn how to install Android P on a compatible device by reading our guide here.
