Whoops: Amazon sold (and shipped) ultra-pricey photo gear for $100 on Prime Day

From reports online, it seems Amazon is honoring the sales and shipping out the gear.

Amazon Prime Day 2019

It seems there were some insane discounts for Amazon Prime Day 2019 that most of us missed. According to reports from users of sale-hunter site Slickdeals (via Peta Pixel), Amazon was selling professional camera gear for up to 98 percent off.

One user obtained this $13,000 camera lens for $100. Another purchased the $2,000 Canon EOS R camera for $100. Same goes for this $4,400 Sony A9 bundle, this $1,500 Sony A6500 bundle, and this $1,300 Fujifilm X100F.

To be clear, these were items sold and shipped by Amazon itself, not a third-party seller.

It’s not clear if these deals were legitimate or an error on Amazon’s part. However, considering the fact that all the discounts related to one product category — professional photo gear — and the pricing for all those products was the same, it seems likely these were unintentional sales.

To its credit, Amazon appears to be honoring the discounts. Many of the buyers have already received their purchases, and once that happens, it would be incredibly difficult for the company to attempt to get them back.

Some users even went to third-party retailers and successfully price-matched items to then buy them.

Those who bought back-ordered products could still have their purchases canceled and refunded, but Amazon does have a history of honoring incorrect pricing promoted on its site.

This story makes that 15 percent discount my friend got on a Chromebook seem pretty dismal by comparison, doesn’t it?
