The Amazon Kindle is, without a doubt. the best e-reader money can buy. However, to get a great experience with an Amazon Kindle you have to spend a good amount of cash — the new Kindle Paperwhite will set you back $130, and that’s the discounted price with special offers (without special offer ads appearing on the device, it will cost you $150).

Luckily, Amazon is updating the cheapest entry in the Kindle lineup to include one of the best features of the Kindle Paperwhite, which is a front light. Amazon had this to say about the front light: “Customers consistently tell us how much they appreciate having a front light on Kindle devices so they can read in any environment — even in bed at night. The team worked hard to bring this customer-favorite feature to our most affordable device.”

That device is the new Amazon Kindle, which has a starting price of just $90 (with special offers). If you don’t want your Kindle to show you ads for Amazon products, the version without special offers is just $110.

The new Amazon Kindle for 2019, with a front light built in.

With this new, cheapest Amazon Kindle, you’re getting the same 6-inch e-ink display as the Kindle Paperwhite, the same ultra-lightweight form factor, and the same week-long battery life.

However, you are missing out on the 300ppi display (this cheaper Amazon Kindle has a 167ppi display), the IPX8 waterproofing, and the higher storage capacity. You’re also getting one less LED lamp.

But hey, you’re saving $40, so if these features aren’t that important to you I’d call that a fair deal.

The new Amazon Kindle will land on April 10, but you can pre-order yours right now. Click one of the buttons below to grab one!
