vivo X90, X90 Pro go global: Where's the X90 Pro Plus?
- vivo has announced the X90 and X90 Pro in global markets.
- The company isn’t bringing the X90 Pro Plus along for the ride, though.
vivo announced the X90 series in China late last year, and the phones packed powerful processors, fast charging, and interesting camera tech. We’ve had to wait a fair while, but the series is finally coming to global markets.
Unfortunately, vivo isn’t bringing the X90 Pro Plus to global markets, with the company only bringing the standard model and X90 Pro instead. The company didn’t give a specific reason for the Pro Plus variant missing global markets, with a representative only telling journalists that it will listen to consumer feedback regarding the X90 series.
Nevertheless, we would’ve loved to see this model launch outside China, as it serves up a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, QHD+ screen, that fantastic Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max fingerprint scanner, and a 64MP 3.5x periscope lens. But the X90 and X90 Pro still seem like solid devices on paper.
The two phones have a number of features in common, such as the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 processor, a 6.78-inch 2,800 x 1,260 120Hz OLED screen, IP68 rating, and 120W wired charging. In the case of the latter, vivo is offering both a “balanced” and “fast charging” mode, with the former capable of 50% capacity in eight minutes.
vivo X90 series: What makes them different?
The Pro variant stands out from the vanilla X90 by offering a 4,870mAh battery and 50W wireless charging. By comparison, the standard X90 packs a 4,810mAh battery but lacks wireless charging support. But we also see a host of changes when it comes to the camera department.
The X90 Pro serves up a 50MP IMX989 one-inch main camera (f/1.75, 1.6 micron pixels, OIS), a 50MP 2x portrait camera (IMX758) and a 12MP IMX663 ultrawide lens. A 32MP shooter handles selfies and video calls.
Meanwhile, the standard X90 delivers a 50MP IMX866 main camera (f/1.75, OIS), a 12MP 2x portrait camera (IMX663), and a 12MP IMX663 ultrawide shooter. Switch to the front and you’ll still find a 32MP selfie camera, though.
The two phones share a number of camera modes and features though, such as ZEISS True Color 2.0 for more realistic hues in images, the Cine Flare Portrait option (adding a cinematic lens flare to portraits), a tilt-shift mode dubbed ZEISS Miniature Effect, and a revised supermoon mode that’s able to capture the moon and landscape in the same shot. But the X90 Pro also gains a handheld astrophotography mode, letting you take astro shots without a tripod.
vivo X90 series pricing and availability
Want to get your hands on the vivo X90 series? Well, vivo has only dished out Malaysian pricing for now. You’ll need to splash out 4,999 Malaysian Ringgits (~$1,174) for the X90 Pro, which is only available in a Legend Black vegan leather option. Otherwise, the standard X90 will set you back 3,699 Malaysian Ringgits (~$869), and is available in Breeze Blue and Asteroid Black color options. Both colorways come with a Fluorite AG Glass back.
