YouTube Red 2
Update (10/28): We first learned about YouTube Red on October 21st, but now as promised, the service is live. You can sign up for a free trial here.

YouTube has been rumored to launch a subscription-based, advertisement-free video service for some time now, and it’s looking like that’s finally coming into fruition. Google has just announced YouTube Red, a new video service that will offer completely ad-free videos and more for just $9.99 per month.

Not only will the videos be ad-free in YouTube Red, it will also allow users to save videos and songs to their mobile devices for offline viewing, as well as the ability to keep videos playing in the background when using other applications. The $9.99 monthly fee also includes a free subscription to Google Play Music, which is a steal considering the music service normally costs $9.99 per month on its own. Additionally, Google Play Music subscribers will also get a free subscription to YouTube Red.

YouTube Red is launching on Wednesday, October 28th and will include a free 30-day trial for all users. Google says that early next year, YouTube Red subscribers will get member-only access to new, original shows and movies from popular content creators. You can learn more about the member-only channels by following this link.

Be sure to watch the promotional video attached above, and head to the YouTube link below to learn more about the service. There’s a pretty informative FAQ section at the bottom of the page, detailing all of YouTube Red’s features.

Its a steal indeed. Even more complimented with 3 months free google play music when purchased Nexus 5x or 6P it’s a dream.

  • Freddy Born

    US only

    • mrjayviper

Google take their sweet time to implement things outside of the US. While Apple already have all these countries for their Apple music! http://www.apple.com/au/music/country-availability/

      • Diskus1

Apple Music doesn’t have videos. Google Play Music (if you want to compare apples to apples):

Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bolivia,
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa
Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic,
Ecuador, El Salvador, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece,
Guatemala, Honduras, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia,
Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Mexico,
Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Peru,
Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden,
Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay, Venezuela

        • mrjayviper

I believe you just reinforced my point. Google takes their sweet time when it comes to releasing their services to other countries.

still not a lot of countries compared Apple music. no african country at all. a whole continent ignored and Apple music was launched only 2nd half of 2015. Google streaming music has been around much longer.

  • McHale72

I have been avoiding ads all together on YouTube for over a year now. I STOPPED GOING TO YOUTUBE. Knowing Google, they will double up on ads to force people to go to the pay model.

    • EeZeEpEe

I doubt they’ll double up on ads. Free Google Play Music hardly has any.

    • cdm283813

Seeing that you’re on a Android enthusiast site how do you watch all the Android tech in action? Reading about it is one thing but seeing it in action is another.

  • Omar Lopez

    Interesting.

  • Hotbod Handsomeface

Pfft, I already have an ad-free YouTube. It’s called Root/Xposed/YouTubeAdAway. Thanks Google, but I’ll keep my money.

      • Hotbod Handsomeface

You can make $97 an hour by opening your legs for me.

        • John Doe

I think that you are paying too much .. lol

    • Tony T.

But then you don’t get music streaming… plus content creators live off of ad revenue… With Red, I assume they get paid based on viewcount from Red subscribers.

      • Hotbod Handsomeface

I have music streaming. It’s called Root / Xposed / Pandora Patcher and Root / Xposed / Songza Patcher. Again, I can save my 10 bones a month and get the same thing you’d pay for.

        • T4rd

Except Pandora and Songza aren’t comparable to Google’s All Access, or Spotify, Apple Music, etc. for that matter. Pandora and Songza are just radio stations on the internet, whereas on All Access and those other services, you can listen to any specific song, album, or artist you want.

          • Hotbod Handsomeface

            1) When I want to listen to specific songs (as in an mp3 playlist) I stream from my OneDrive or Box account through BubbleUPnP – $5 one-time payment for the BubbleUPnP “pro license” or whatever, and still not paying $10 a month. With 15GB free storage from OneDrive and 50GB from Box, I have no need for additional space (so don’t retort “but the others have every artist under the sun” because I don’t listen to every artist under the sun).

            2) I prefer “radio”-type streaming anyway. rarely do I stream specific songs I want to hear. Keeps things interesting and I get to hear new music and find new likes.

            3) I’ve heard the argument that “Spotify has more songs in their library” than Pandora or Songza… Here’s the thing: if Spotify has 100 million songs and I only like 5 million of them, and Pandora has 20 million songs and I like 15 million of them, which one is really better for me? An extreme example, but makes my point that I have found that my music tastes are more in line with Pandora than with Spotify. Other people’s mileage may vary.

            4) My life mantra is don’t pay for sh!+ you can get for free. Which also leads to how I acquire all my music to stream in mp3-type playlists when I want.

            5) Not attempting to argue one method is better than the other, simply trying to save people some coin by showing them there are other ways to get the same benefits cheaper or free. Cash is hard enough to come by these days, lol.

          • T4rd

Fair enough. Your way is more work (downloading/managing your own music) and still costs money (assuming you’re acquiring your music legally) if you want to listen to newer music. For the relatively low price for Red/All Access, it’s worth the convenience for me. But I’m using the free month trial for now and will be splitting Google’s family plan with a few friends when it launches soon, which will knock it down to a few bucks/month.. virtually free at that point.

          • Hotbod Handsomeface

Psh, legally. Let’s get real. Free trumps all.

Downloading is done in class, at work, and through apps on the fly while just sitting on the couch watching TV, so no time lost doing the “work” you mention. Files can easily be dropped / uploaded to whichever cloud drive I wish on the fly.

            Some simple math for you:

            Free < few dollars
            Free << few dollars monthly
            Free =/= virtually free

Again, not arguing with you and not looking to "turn you", just showing a better picture of my way of doing things. Pay all you want to. I prefer to keep my hard earned cash in my pocket for better / more useful things.

          • T4rd

Yeah, that “work” is you finding, downloading, uploading, and sorting through the occasional garbage you get through torrents with bad rips and garbage metadata to go with it. That’s not quite “on the fly”.

            Some simple math for you:

Few dollars < VPN service fees you should be using if you don't want inevitable RIAA/ISP notices
Few dollars monthly << potential lawsuit from the RIAA for piracy
Virtually free = no reason not to unless you're truly broke as balls

So you're still paying for it somehow and that 50GB drop box promotion won't last forever either. No free VPN service is worth a damn for constant downloading and you're retarded if you're not using one. Before I was using VPN, I got a notice from the MPAA and I wasn't even downloading a movie, it was from that Popcorntime app that basically streams torrents to your PC/phone/chromecast. Few friends of mine have gotten notices as well from occasional torrents.

Seriously, I can't imagine being so broke to warrant stealing when it's this cheap. It's just not worth the risk or hassle anymore IMO.

          • Hotbod Handsomeface

            – Lifetime unlimited download/data VPN service for one-time $35 payment, works on phones, computer, etc. up to 4 devices. No problems with it ever. Updates to program and app keep getting better and better.

            – I don’t know what torrent site you use, but I get the song or movie I want first try every time. Programs are typically two tries, which isn’t a problem downloading multiple files at once and using the best. When some of the programs are a few hundred to a few thousand dollars (i.e. – Office 2013, WIn7, Adobe products, MATLAB), I’ll take the 10 minutes to sort through and find the correct program file, lol.

            – Never got a “MPAA / RIAA warning letter”. Been downloading for years (possibly decades) – movies, music, programs, undergrad and graduate books, etc. – no letters, no warnings. So you and your homeboys are either seriously unlucky, or you’re attempting to use scare tactics on me (others reading your trash?) into thinking it’s a good idea to purchase a service that can be obtained for free.

            – Lol. Free “mp3” music streaming, free “radio” music streaming, free SiriusXM through car device (loophole, mistake on their part), free gym membership (loophole through work), etc., etc., etc. Little bits all add up, just like your “few dollars every month” adds up.

So… you enjoy spending your money on stuff you don’t need to. I’ll enjoy keeping mine.

          • T4rd

Yeah, it adds up.. to a whopping $36/year. Really hard to budget that into my 100k+/year income (between the wife and I) right now, eh? Lol

I’m sorry you can’t afford to do the same, because I truly believe that you can’t if your motto is “don’t pay for sh!t you can get (steal) for free.” As you earn more money, you tend to mature a bit in this aspect. I used to have the same mentality in the teens and early 20s, but I haven’t used bit torrent in a couple years now and don’t mind paying for the things I truly enjoy. It’s much easier and more convenient no matter how you spin it, and as you get older time and convenience trumps all. I hope you get there one day. ;-)

          • Hotbod Handsomeface

Lol, now you’re lowering to insulting maturity and salary with no basis or fact. Awesome. Hopefully when I get to $100k a year (relying on a wife’s salary to get there, lol) I can feel badazz enough to ridicule people who do it better than me on the Internet late at night, too.

          • T4rd

More like 70(me)/30. But it’s ok to be jealous, it should motivate you to get there eventually too so you don’t have to steal so much. ;-)

If you’re insulted by being ridiculed over stealing, then maybe don’t flaunt it online or even stop doing it if you’re not so poor that you need resort to stealing (that’s the basis – back to that comprehension thing you had issues with earlier).

          • Hotbod Handsomeface

Lol, yep, jealous of a guy who’s so righteous in his ways he argues back and forth online with a young poor loser. We all strive to be like you, tard.

70? 30?? You two must be rolling in piles of cash, lol. Perhaps you both should try to work harder in life (your wife especially, that’s just pathetic) instead of throwing your I’m-better-than-thou attitude all over the ‘net. 70 and 30 is definitely nothing to brag about. I can’t stop laughing.

Don’t worry, you’ll get to “real money” status someday. Lol.

          • T4rd

I don’t mind arguing with online losers, it breaks the monotony while I’m at work during the day and doing home work for school at night. I finished an essay and some some other homework still while still schooling you last night. You would indeed be fortunate to be like me. ;-)

I wasn’t bragging, it’s a pretty average income, which emphasizes how much you must be struggling to validate your constant stealing of intellectual properties. I know it’s rough being below that poverty line, I was too when I first moved out of my parents house after high school.. for about a week before I went Active Duty Army, lol. I’m assuming you’re still in your parents basement or something?

I’m only 30 now and am still in school right now for my masters, so yeah, I can only go up from here! Thanks for the motivation, bruh!

          • Hotbod Handsomeface

I only felt dumber after you “schooled” me in your way yesterday. Hopefully you aren’t a teacher of anything. Even with a sh!++y salary of 70k they’re paying you too much.

          • T4rd

I’m sure you do feel dumber.. you seem to be bleeding brain cells by the day and incapable of rational thought or general comprehension. GL with that though.

          • Hotbod Handsomeface

And GL to you, your wife, and your shi++y jobs that only pay 100k total, lol. 70 is funny, but 30 is downright pathetic. Way to go making something of your lives.

          • T4rd

If that’s pathetic, then you must be downright suicidal right now. I know financial stress is one of the top causes of suicide, so don’t kill yourself yet man, you have to keep this funny internet argument going indefinitely! lol

          • Hotbod Handsomeface

Lol, the only way I’d kill myself is if I had your life (or even a combination of your life with the additional “help” of your wife’s measily salary). Hang on one second, I’ll go see if I can find a gun for you…

          • T4rd

Yeah, you’re definitely sick somehow if you’d rather have a lonely life of poverty and constant thieving. I’ve definitely never seen anyone resent successful people so much that they’d rather kill themselves than have their own family with a decent income. I truly feel sorry for you now.

          • Hotbod Handsomeface

You really are a tard if you think your lowly 70k + 30k salaries are “decent income”. I mean come on, your wife can make more than that dancing at the local club… or maybe she can’t? Possibly not a looker, else she wouldn’t have settled for a moron making 70k who likes to piss his cash away as fast as possible on stupid sh!+.

      • Diego

I thought youtube was a video sharing site?
Not a network for people to make money.

    • T4rd

I have Xposed/YTAdaway too, but it doesn’t work with Chromecast and neither does Adblock on my PC. This will kill ads on Chromecast (just tested it) plus you get All Access Music, which costs the same per month anyways, so this is kind of a freebie with that.

      • Hotbod Handsomeface

You need AdBlockPlus on your PC (another free Chrome Extension). I haven’t seen an ad on YouTube since… I can’t remember it’s been so long. As for Chromecast, well, I don’t use it, and I can’t solve all the world’s problems in one day.

        • T4rd

I didn’t mean Adblock on my PC didn’t work on Youtube, I meant it doesn’t block ads on Chromecast still. Adblock for PC blocks youtube ads fine as well on my PCs, so no need for AdBlockPlus. You haven’t solved any probs though, so dunno what dafuq you’re talking about. =p

          • Hotbod Handsomeface

Next time be more specific and I’ll understand what dafuq you’re talking about. =P

          • T4rd

It doesn’t get much more specific than that, lol. Next time exercise some reading comprehension and you’ll avoid sounding like a moron. ;-)

          • Hotbod Handsomeface

“and neither does AdBlock on my PC” implies AdBlock does not work on your PC. The way you structured your sentence does not relate AdBlock on the PC to the Chromecast, it relates to not working in general. Maybe you need to go back to Reading Comprehension class. Try to get an “A” this time instead of floating by with a D-. No wonder our country is the way it is today.

          • T4rd

Except it does since I said it immediately following the word “Chromecast”, lol. You’re wronger’n shiat! =p

Try reading the whole sentence out loud and slowly.. maybe call your mom and spell it out so she can correct you and help you understand what some of the words mean. Or are you already typing through her since you seem to be having so much trouble with this English thing? X-D

          • Hotbod Handsomeface

“X-D” ugh, dealing with a “yellow” here. Obviously doesn’t understand English.

          • T4rd

            Lolwut

          • Hotbod Handsomeface

Exactly. Thank you for proving my point.

          • T4rd

            Lolwut

          • Hotbod Handsomeface

I see you’ve run out of actual words to use and now sound just like your username and image suggest. Send me your address, I’ll send you a dictionary so you can better grasp the English language.

          • T4rd

            Lolwut

  • Rodney Whitfield

Well I am already paying for play music, I am good with this.

  • Arjun

Or could use a windows phone :P

  • Greeney03

I use YT a lot on my mobile phone and on my Nexus Player. I’m glad Google decided to include this to my Google Music subscription.

  • Michael Hall

Most apps have an ad free version or download for a very low ONCE ONLY payment.

Why does Google think it can charge so much EVERY month?

Sorry, not for me. If the ads get on my nerves, I’ll just ditch using YT and go to individual Web sites to view videos.

    • Tony T.

Because YouTube isn’t just an app, it’s a content service. It also gives you All Access to Google Play Music. That’s like saying you should only have to pay once for the Spotify app or Netflix app…

      • kcz7

Exactly! It’s hilarious how many comments I’ve read today like the one above. Omg… It’s so expensive! Yet those same people go and buy Starbucks 3-5 (or more) times a week.

        • Tony T.

It’s just funny because almost always people who complain that services like YouTube also whine about pre-roll ads or sponsored videos with an ad blurb in the video… How are content makers supposed to make money. You either pay with a subscription or with ad revenue. I don’t see what is wrong with that.

          • kcz7

People nowadays just want everything free. We live in a ‘give me give me give me’ era of self entitled mentality. I find it sickening, but until people/companies/corporations take a stand against such acts, it’ll continue.

  • Aridon

What this does it make me want to cancel my Spotify account and just go with Google Music and enjoy the youtube experience ad free as well the few times a month I use it. Pretty damn good deal overall.

    • kcz7

That’s exactly what I did this afternoon. GPM+YTR (music & video options) outweigh just music (Spotify) for the same price.

  • DnB925Art

I still am on the early subscriber $7.99/month subscription, so having YouTubeRed now included is a bonus indeed for the price I am paying!

    • EeZeEpEe

I also have it for $8. I knew it would pay off being an early Google Play Music subscriber!

  • Justin Freeman

Why YouTubeRed? This is so close to Redtube, you know people will accidentally stumble upon that instead. Boy are they in for a treat.

    • Tony T.

My GF made the same point the other day. I said, either one is good so it doesn’t really matter which one you end up on, haha.

      • mrjayviper

        highly agree!

    • kcz7

Never heard of RedTube till today (aachoo …xvideos…), but I understand the correlation.

on windows phone youtube is ad free through metro tube app

also youtube red, wasnt there already redtube

  • EQ

Tip, just roll with Adguard on non rooted phone. The Adguard v3 that will be released on january will be able to filter SSL encrypted connections and remove ads from such connections besides all non encrypted connections. That means Gmail, Youtube and Facebook to name some.

  • John Doe

God there ad is terrible, If I did not know that it was for YouTube-Red, I would think it was for some service on Youtube .. lol
Anywho, what does it exactly include? Should I drop Google Music, and just sign up for YouTube Red?

  • Siralf

I was already a Google Play Music subscriber and planned to be for years to come so great extra. I absolutely loathe ads and feels good to support YouTubers.

  • Happy

Did AA really had to use the word “just” in the title? I can understand when the person selling you something does it to increase his sales, but a web site that has nothing to gain? Or do they?

  • Btort

Redtube is finally on the app store? oh wait…..
