It looks like another upcoming major flagship phone will have to make due with slightly lower hardware specs for its processor. A new rumor claims that the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 6 may launch with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, rather than the higher end Snapdragon 835 chip.

The unconfirmed report comes from an unnamed source who used his Weibo social media account to post his story. While Xiaomi has not confirmed this report, it’s definitely not hard to believe. Many earlier online reports claim that the first smartphones that will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 will be the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+, and that Samsung has basically cornered the market for this chip for the next few months. The new LG G6 is launching with the older Snapdragon 821 chip for reportedly the same reason.

The good news is that if you really, really want to get the Xiaomi Mi 6 with the Snapdragon 835, the same rumor claims that the company will release a variant of the smartphone with that chip sometime in the future. The Mi 6, which will be the successor to the highly successful Mi 5 smartphone, is currently rumored to be officially revealed by Xiaomi on April 6. Previous unconfirmed leaks have claimed the phone will have a flat screen display and 4GB of RAM while the Mi 6 Pro version could have a curved display and 6GB of RAM.
