Xiaomi fans probably feel that they have been waiting forever for the company’s Mi 5 flagship. Gradually, some new details are emerging and today a number of press renders and a leaked video have appeared, showcasing a fair bit about the upcoming smartphone’s looks.

The leaked pictures show off the Mi 5 in a variety of colors, including Black, Gold, Pink and White options. The phone appears to have taken on a more curved design than the Mi 4, with slightly rounded corners and an oval-shaped home button which reportedly houses a new fingerprint scanner, á la the Galaxy S6. The previously rumored 2.5D curved glass display and 3D glass back panel also seem to make an appearance.

The short video clip, embedded below, which claims to show the Mi 5 in action reaffirms the look of these press images. However, this model doesn’t look quite as slim as the renders and the corners are noticeably more rectangular.

Previous hardware specifications have pinned the Xiaomi Mi 5 on a quad-core Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM, a 5.2-inch QHD display, a 16 megapixel rear camera and an 8 megapixel front facing camera. The phone is also said to come with 16GB or 64GB of internal storage and a 3,030mAh battery. A Mi 5 Plus version of the phone with a 5.5 or 5.7-inch display has also been rumored, which may account for the slightly wider looking handset model on the video.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 is rumored to cost around 2500 Yuan ($390) when it finally launches, which would make the smartphone quite the bargain.

Looks really plain with those colors. Not sure how else to put it. Almost pastel like.

So their goal is to get sued by Apple and Samsung? Because the front looks like a note 5, and the back and lock screen looks like an iphone 6…

    • Lim Ming Quan

      exactly my thoughts….

It’s almost the same design as the mi4 released in 2014.

The MI4 was more like a galaxy s3 mixed with an old htc phone. It had capacitive buttons and a centered camera. Then they just moved the camera to the left on the MI4 c… however they still have a tendency of splicing two phones to make their own.

That is more originality than most.

I see that you never use MIUI. or should I say, iPhone-skinned Android? Anyway, in case you wonder, if you bought Chinese company Android phone, there’d be only 2 possibility:
      1. Stock UI Android, usually found on cheaper and less ambitious company
      2. iPhone-centric UI, on more ambitious company, check Xiaomi’s MIUI, or Huawei’s Ascend phone line if you don’t believe me

I just hope they dont go full retard and not release a global version.

If the Galaxy S6 and the iPhone 6S had a love child, it would look exactly like this! -_-

  • Armaan Modi

I want to buy it before even knowing its specs!

I hope they keep the removable back plates! The wooden options in the Mi4 easily made it the best looking phone around. Shame about the lack north American lte bands, hopefully that will change with the mi5.

Am I the only one who likes design without physical buttons at the bottom of the screen? I mean, come on — finally android device (nexus 6p) is more mature looking than ostentatious iphone. Why physical buttons? Meizu/Redmi note 3 back is really interesting and I like the scanner at the back.

Meh, stop with this curved screen crap already. Pass.

Why couldn’t they have used the MediaTek X10 or X20 it’s much better than the Snapdragon 820 even if then the phone would be an extra $100 that’s not that big of a deal.

Sorry to ask as I am not that familiar with processors in smart phones but, I have read and seen some comparison on this and found snapdragon 810 chip is better than mediatek? So naturally snapdragon 820 should be a little better?

It’s like saying to use Samsung new processor which overall is better in bench test. Even on this site at Android Authority they did comparison on the cores and other stuff… Please explain why and how mediatek is better….

I heard that spec wise xiaomi4c was better than most all phones on the market.

I need enough information as I am actually planning to buy a new phone.

      Thank you

Other than more rectangular corners in the video, it also have more distance of front facing camera and sensors with the earpiece. Mi5 plus?
