Widgets are among the easiest ways to keep tabs on the latest updates on your device, most especially if you are using a tablet. Any avid Android user can attest that the strongest point of Android has to be its widgets, which have made many iOS turn green with envy.

The Google Play Store hosts widgets that help in many aspects of our daily lives, including daily weather forecasts, battery status, and social networking updates, just to name a few. Among the newcomers in the widgets camp is the Weather Neue widget app.

Weather Neue roughly means “Weather News” in English.  It is a widget app that I found truly a pleasure to look at and added more beauty to my phone’s homescreen without flooding the homescreen with unnecessary information.

Weather Neue is built around simplicity and breaks away from the rest by offering a minimalistic approach that doesn’t bombard your screen with tons of data. Instead, the widget displays the current temperature in large font together with the current location with a small icon on the upper right that represents the weather.

Tapping the location name opens a lovely animation that will push the main view background and shows the new option panel. You can also change the theme as well as the units of measurement in this mode.

Just like any other weather app, the Weather Neue also shows the forecast for the week as simple icons that represent the chance of rain, wind speed, temperature, and wind direction. Regardless of what theme you are using, the user-interface is absolutely gorgeous, complete with animation that takes the spotlight when the app is first launched.

Most weather applications display a typical activity indicator that can be found by accessing the top of the screen. In the case of the Weather Neue application, the developers kept the style of the app as is and included a changing temperature indicator.

Weather Neue is available as a free application to download and you can get it instantly via the Google Play Store. Like I said, the widget is great for tablet devices most especially the new Nexus 7. For those of you who have purchased the new tablet by Google, Weather Neue is a great way to make your tablet shine.

One of the strongest points of Weather Neue is its simplicity. If you’ve been searching for an alternative weather widget, then you better try Weather Neue.

You can download the Weather Neue application for free from the Google Play Store.

It’s not even a widget, it’s just an app

Hello, I am sorry but I do not see this app as a widget, only as a standalone aplication. Makes whole thing useless for me – I don’t want to tap app icon to see weather. App itself is pretty and simplistic which I like. / Galaxy Note
